Mafua's 1st set of the season, performing to their local community and special moment where Natan Regis ( son of the singer Rebeca Vallim) has his debut, singing the sing Preto Velho.

as part of FUTURE LEADERS PROGRAM 2014

MAY 9th-11th

'Future Leaders' apprentices (aged between 13 and 25 depending on the art form) will extend their practical skills in carnival arts based music making, dance, visual arts and drum kit, as well as gain project management experience, guided by leading artists and professionals in their field. 

  By the end of their year together, we hope that all 40 of the Future Leaders are in an improved position to deliver their own work, develop new ideas with other likeminded artists, and generally feel a greater sense of confidence and belief in their abilities to take their skills to the next level. at TRIBE OF DORIS Summer gathering

Explore, participate, experience, collaborate!This years gathering will take place in the grounds of the stunning Stanford Hall, a 900 acres park & estate, through which the river Avon flows.

     

 Collaboration is also a key part of what we do so we will be setting up spaces, both formal and informal for people to share, inspire and innovate. The central fire is often a place where new ideas spark into being. More info here.

Drumming Masterclass with Gilu Amaral

Born and raised in Olinda, Gilu has gained a wide range of musical experience, acquired through work and collaboration with many artists such as Naná Vasconcelos, Renata Rosa, Mundo Livre S/A, amongst many. Immersed in different rhythmical structures from sacred ritual of "candomble", different schools and local musical groups. This allowed the artist to have a domain of many rhythms such as maracatu, samba, forro, 'coco', ciranda and cavalo marinho.

 

  In this session the rhythms from Pernambuco are unfolded in 3 hours of drumming and learning!
